17TH JULY – All road lead to Llanidloes

Sunday the 17th July saw the first ever mixed womens and girls festival. Llanidloes hosted not only the Regional Womens and U18’s thrid round of the National 7’s tournament, but mixed in RGC’s first national cluster festival.

Six ages grades from U9’s to Senior Womens were all represented and took part in a fully intergrated festival kicked off by an U15’s match on the main pitch. RGC cluster clubs, Mor Ladron, Rebels and the Ravens hosted the Bridges from Llantwit Fardre and the Myrddin Maidens from Carmarthenshire. Senior and U18’s were represented by Blues, Dragons Ospreys and the winners in both age groups on the day The Scarlets.

With over 20 games on the day the event proved a huge success and will hopefully be the showcase for the end of the Cluster season as well as displaying the pathway for North Wales players wishing pursue the sport.

The event was a credit to its hosts Llandiloes RFC who were fantastic, food, tea and coffee and homemade cake. Wolfpack challenges and raffles for parents, coaches and players added to the festival feel.

Players enjoyed watching Welsh senior and regional players and getting the opportunity to mix discuss rugby and even the U13’s playing alongside the likes of Rebels Ambassador Elen Evans and Welsh Captain Rachel Taylor. Opportunity to see the U18’s pathway first hand and a Q&A with Ospreys and Wales back row Shona Powell Hughes proved a hit.

We look forward to revisiting Llanidloes next year and look forward to extending the invitation to more Cluster clubs. On behalf of the WRU we would like to thank all the players, coaches, parents and volunteers for their attendance and support.
